I have always thought of myself as a photographer. Maybe not a good one, but I work at it. I received my first camera for Christmas back in either 1965 or 1966. It was a Kodak Instamatic 104. I loved that camera and used it for many years. Occasionally my parents would let me use their camera on school field trips. It was a Kodak Tourist II. In 1979 I purchased my first SLR camera a Minolta XG 9 with a Rokkor-X 50mm 1.7 lens. That camera served me faithfully until the Spring of 1999 when I purchased a Nikon N70. I moved into the digital era with a Kodak Easy Share C360 and Kodak P850. I still own all of these cameras. (see photo in above header)
This past Spring my early birthday present was my first digital SLR. It is a Canon 40D. I have two lenses I use. A Canon zoom 18 – 200 mm 3.5 – 5.6 lens and a Canon 50 mm 1.4 lens. On occasion my brother is very generous and will let me borrow his Canon 100 mm 2.8 Macro lens.
I have had so much fun getting to know my camera and taking photos that I wanted to commit to something more. I started reading about the 365 Photo Project and thought that would be fun to do. But, after much consideration and talking with a few folks, I decided that would be too much and I probably would not finish. So I opted for the 52 week project. I plan to post one photo per week for 52 weeks. I asked myself what do I want to accomplish and this is what I came up with:
1. Follow a project through to completion.
2. Learn to use my camera, hopefully to its full potential.
3. Become a better photographer.
4. Have fun.
I will start this adventure the first week of January 2010. I hope you will enjoy the journey with me and I welcome any feed back.
Strange how you opted not to wear the life jacket in this photo. Great stuff–keep up the good work. Keep traveling and clicking away so iIcan stay at home and just take in the sights through your lens.

Just wanted to say that I have really been enjoying your photos.
I studied photography as part of my animation degree back in the early 90′s, but have taken little, other than thousands photos of my kids, over the past few years.
Thanks for helping to motivate me to get back into it lately, Amazing how much is going on around us that was whiz on past everyday. The camera causes me to slow down and look more closely.

Tony,
I’m glad you are enjoying the photos and it is always nice to know that one can inspire another. It is nice to slow down once in a while and take a “snapshot” of life. Have fun with your camera and being creative.
